OUR MANDATE The Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board will facilitate training and adjustment activities that will equip people with skills for new and/or changing employment that is in demand by employers in their own local community. Specifically:

• Provide the community with up-to-date information on programs and services that lead to employment • Communicate with stakeholders about trends, opportunities and priorities in local employment and economic change • Facilitate community partnerships throughout Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka to discuss and identify training needs and support the development of local solutions • Promote and support equity in sectoral employment and training opportunities in the community • Promote life-long learning

The Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board is a non-government, non-profit local board, designated to identify local training and adjustment needs and provide advice and recommendations to their government partners. With broad public involvement, the Board will gather labour market information, provide analysis of training needs and advise governments on existing training and adjustment programs and provide direction on the need for new programs or services. The Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board, one of 25 in the province, serves the communities of Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka.
The Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board was officially launched on Monday, October 6, 1997, at an evening public presentation at the Holiday Inn, Barrie. The Board opened an office at 18 Alliance Blvd, Unit 22 in Barrie in November 1997.
The Directors of the Board are representative of various constituency groups within Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. Directors represent Labour, Business, Educator/Trainers, Women, Persons with Disabilities, Francophones, Visible Minorities and Youth. They ensure the needs of their communities and specific groups are considered in all aspects of employment and training.
To remain in touch with the needs and issues of each community, the Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board conducts community consultations to provide a forum to hear the concerns of the people of Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka to find grassroots solutions to employment and training challenges. In addition, the Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board hosts numerous sectoral focus groups to discuss specific needs and issues in different employment areas.
Under the direction of the Labour Co-Chair Michele MacDonald and Business Co-Chair Evelyn Reid, the Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board will continue to bring community partners of all the communities of Simcoe County and the district of Muskoka together to address the employment and training needs of the people of Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. Working together with our community partners, the Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board will provide a local voice in government decision-making and ensure the needs of our community are heard and met.
